Marietta Memorial Hospital’s Diabetes Education Center Adds Two New Sites
Marietta Memorial Hospital’s Diabetes Education Center has received approval from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for two expansion sites to compliment their diabetes education program at 701 Hildreth Lane in Marietta.
The first expansion site to get approval is the Barlow Campus, which is located at 8360 State Route 339 in Barlow. Our second site to receive approval is located at our new Belpre Medical Campus at 807 Farson Street in Belpre.
“The expansion site brings diabetes education to the patient,” says Kathy Reis, program coordinator for the Diabetes Education Center. “We are excited to be able to expand our services to better serve and educate our community members living with diabetes,” says Reis.
According to the Center for Disease Control, the United States is estimated to have 25.8 million people with diabetes and 79 million people with pre-diabetes. In Ohio, 10.1 percent of the population has diabetes and in Washington County alone an estimated 12 percent of the population has diabetes, which is way above the national average of 8.3 percent. In West Virginia, 12 percent of the population has diabetes. In Wood County specifically, 11.7 percent of the population is estimated to have diabetes.
