The Warning Signs of a Stroke: Act FAST
F = Face Ask the person to smile, does one of side of their face droop?
A = Arms Ask the person to raise both arms, does one arm drift downward?
S = Speech Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, does their speech sound slurred?
T = Time If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1- immediately.

Risk Factors:
- High blood pressure
- Victim of previous stroke
- High cholesterol
- Diagnosed with heart disease
- Smoking
- Being overweight
- Consuming too much alcohol

Reduce Your Risk:
- Know your blood pressure. High blood pressure is a major stroke risk factor if left untreated. Have your blood pressure checked annually.
- Stop smoking. Smoking doubles the risk of a stroke. It causes damage to vessel walls, speeds up artery clogging, raises blood pressure and makes the heart work harder.
- Control alcohol use. Alcohol use has been linked to stroke in many studies. Majority of doctors recommend not drinking or drinking in moderation.
- Know cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is fatty substance that is made by the body. It is also present in food. High cholesterol can clog arteries and cause a stroke. See a doctor if your cholesterol level is more than 200.
- Mange diet and exercise. Excess weight strains the circulatory system. Try to exercise five times a week and maintain a healthy diet low in salt and cholesterol.
