(Marietta, OH, May 19, 2009) - Over 160 volunteers who donate their time to helping patients, visitors and staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital will be honored at a recognition dinner at the Marietta Shrine Club on Wednesday, May 20 beginning at 5:30 p.m.
The 27th annual dinner serves as a means of thanking the active volunteers who donate their time and skills in performing important functions including greeting patients and their families, escorting patients to various departments and providing parking assistance throughout the facility as needed.
Several volunteers reached milestones in the number of hours given during 2008. Among the recipients of milestone hour gold pins are Evelyn Hawn for 12,000 hours; Mary O’Connor for 9,000 hours; Elva Stuart for 8,000 hours; and Andy Francis, Leona Meagle and Polly Seyler for 4,000 hours. Also recognized for donating over 500 hours in 2008 are 500 Hour Club Members: Andy Francis, Dean Hoffart, Robert Jones and Casi Stewart.
“Our volunteers make significant contributions to Marietta Memorial every day,” said Anna Vukovic, director of volunteer services. “We are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize them for their commitment to this community and to our delivery of excellent health care locally.”
During the past year, volunteers have donated over 29,000 hours in over 30 different areas in hospital departments and outreach programs. Besides their time, volunteers have raised and donated over $11,000 to several different programs including the Guardian Angel Fund for hospice patients, Love Lights, baby blankets for the hospital’s nursery and stuffed animals for the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund that provides teddy bears for both area hospitals, distributing over 1,500 bears to young patients last year.
