(Marietta, OH, May 19, 2009) – Marietta Memorial Hospital is the platinum sponsor for Washington County's Relay for Life, May 15 & 16 at Belpre Civitan Park.
The 15th Annual Washington County Relay for Life, which raised more than $180,000 in the fight against cancer and drew more than 60 teams, including 175 survivors, also offered participants the unique chance to contribute to a landmark new study. The CPS-3 is a long-term study that will help researchers better identify the lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer.
This year marked the beginning of 25 years of Relay for Life with MMH’s Strecker Cancer Center actively supporting this event locally for over 11 years.
The Strecker Cancer Center is dedicated to serving the health needs of our community. One of its missions, among others, is to create a health care environment in which quality of care is a way of life and exceptional commitment is apparent to patients, their families, the medical staff and the community. In meeting these objectives, the Cancer Center continues to provide the highest level of treatment in the Mid-Ohio Valley by expanding their services into a new state-of-the-art cancer facility. The new Strecker Cancer Center, which officially opened its doors in May, will be holding a community open house from 5-7 p.m. with remarks at 6 p.m. on May 21. Come and take a tour of the new Strecker Cancer Center, which provides cancer patients with the latest in treatment services including TomoTherapy, located on Fourth Street.
