August 23, 2008 - Teddy Bear Run Set for August 23
(Marietta, OH, August 18, 2008) - Imagine 100 teddy bears going for a scenic ride in the country on the back of fifty motorcycles. The 15th annual Teddy Bear Run, organized by the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund in partnership with the local chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders and Marietta Memorial Hospital, will be held this Saturday, August 23.
The Teddy Bear Run participants will assemble at noon at the Washington County Fairgrounds, with Marietta Mayor Mike Mullens wishing the riders farewell as they travel along the several scenic roads in Washington County. The bike run will conclude at the Strecker Cancer Center at Marietta Memorial Hospital and will include refreshments and a 50/50 drawing for the participating riders. At this time, the donation of the teddy bears will be presented to a representative of the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund.
The Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund provides 1,000 stuffed animals annually to children ages 6 months to 12 years old admitted into one of the two local hospitals, including traumatized cases in the emergency department.
The public is invited to participate in the run and all makes of motorcycles are welcomed. There is no fee; each rider is expected to purchase a new teddy bear to take on the run and donate to the fund. Last year’s event brought 60 motorcycles and over 100 people together from twelve local motorcycle clubs. For those interested in donating or learning more about the fun, please contact Anna Vukovic, director of volunteer services at Marietta Memorial Hospital, at (740) 374-1778.
