January 19, 2012 - Belpre Elementary School’s Right Choice Club Provides Stress Kits to Quitting Tobacco Users

The Right Choice Club (RCC) is a student-centered group serving sixth graders at Belpre Elementary. The club is directed by Belpre’s Guidance Counselor
Karen Waller. The Right Choice Club meets weekly to learn about the dangers of drugs, alcohol and tobacco use, as well as leadership mechanisms such as teamwork, task completion, goal setting and the importance of serving others.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Right Choice Club has provided much needed “stress kits” to tobacco users that are trying to quit. These kits contain mint, for users to remember their commit "mint" to stay tobacco-free, gum for users to stick to their decision to quit, and other items to help tobacco users relieve their stress. The Right Choice Club would like for tobacco users who automatically reached for their tobacco products to instead retrain their brain by reaching for a piece of candy or gum instead.

The Right Choice Club has worked with the Selby General Hospital’s Tobacco Program in the past helping with the Great American Smokeout, Kick Tobacco Day, Red Ribbon Week and many more community activities.
