April 27, 2013 - Memorial Health System Granted Breast Center Accreditation
The Memorial Health System announces it has been granted three-year full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). NAPBC accreditation is given only to those centers that have voluntarily committed to provide the highest quality care in breast disease diagnosis and treatment, and have demonstrated they comply with the accreditation program standards.
During the survey process, the system demonstrated compliance with the standards set forth by NAPBC for treating women needing breast health care. The standards include proficiency in the areas of: center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
“This program raises the bar for breast health care, and sets us apart from other care providers in the region,” says Scott Cantley, president and CEO of the Memorial Health System. “We are pleased and honored that the NAPBC has acknowledged our commitment to providing a comprehensive program with excellent care and advanced technology for our patients.”
As an NAPBC-accredited center, Memorial Health System patients have access to:
· Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
· A multidisciplinary team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
· Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options, and, most importantly,
· Quality breast care close to home.
“Our Breast Health Care Navigator helps guide newly diagnosed breast cancer patients through the diagnostic, treatment, support and education process,” says Teressa Buckley, Clinical Director of the Strecker Cancer Center. “Our comprehensive services include digital mammography, the gold standard for early detection of breast cancer; ultrasound, image-guided breast biopsy, Breast MRI, a highly sensitive exam, which expands our ability to diagnose early stage breast cancers that may not be visible on mammography and ultrasound; Cancer Genetic Counseling, and full on-site treatment services, including radiation therapy and medical oncology. We also provide support and education groups.”
