May 14, 2014 - Marietta Memorial Hospital Volunteers Celebrate 32nd Annual Recognition Dinner

Marietta Memorial Hospital Volunteers will be honored at a recognition dinner at the Lafayette Hotel, Wednesday, May 21, 2014. Each Spring, they are recognized and thanked for their time, energy and devotion to providing quality, compassionate care to our patients with an annual recognition dinner and program. MMH volunteers donated 25,820 hours in 30 different volunteer job stations throughout the hospital, including the Belpre Campus.

Volunteers at Marietta Memorial Hospital touch the lives of Memorial Health System employees and patients in some way. They are everywhere giving time, energy and expertise to help others. Together, they represent enormous talent and caring, adding to the warmth, efficiency and caring of our hospital.

Because of volunteers, important functions like greeting patients and their families, delivering charts, parking assistance and computer data entry are completed. They give directions, answer questions and dispense smiles daily. They answer phones and help visitors by escorting them to their destinations. They are liaisons between patients and our staff, often making waiting easier, more pleasant and finding offices quicker.

Several volunteers reached milestones in the number of hours given during 2013. Among the recipients of milestone hour gold pins are 8,000 Hours: Andy Francis; 7,000 Hours: Bonnie Johnson; 5,000 Hours: Casi Stewart; and Arlene Balfour and Ken Sandstrom: 3,000 Hours.  Also recognized for belonging to the 500 Hours Club are Andy Francis, Dean Hoffart, Ray Mitchell, Bill Campbell and Casi Stewart. Sixteen volunteers will also be honored for having volunteered their services at Marietta Memorial Hospital for 20 or more years.

“Our volunteers make significant contributions to Marietta Memorial every day,” said Anna Vukovic, director of volunteer services. “They deserve to be recognized for their commitment to this community and to our delivery of excellent health care locally.”

Besides their time, volunteers have raised and donated $4,250 to several different programs including the Annual Fashion Show that benefits the cancer center, baby blankets and hats for the nursery, wheelchairs and stuffed animals for the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund that provides teddy bears for children at Marietta Memorial and Selby General Hospitals, distributing over 1,500 bears to young patients last year.
