September 29, 2014 - Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund Drive Begins

The Memorial Health System’s  “Teddy Bear Fund Week” takes place October 5 – 11, 2014. The week is designed to raise funds to provide a stuffed animal to every child, aged 6 months to 12 years old, when admitted to either Marietta Memorial or Selby General Hospitals.

More than 1,200 stuffed animals are handed out each year.  “Stuffed animals are used by doctors and nurses as a tool to help demonstrate unfamiliar hospital procedures to children. Casts, IVs and bandages are a common sight on the newly acquired ‘furry friends’ in the arms of our young patients on their way to surgery, lab and x-ray,” commented Vukovic.

“Teddy Bear Week” is supported by local fast-food restaurants and their patrons.

On Tuesday, October 9, all Marietta McDonald’s locations will be donating 25¢ on each medium fries purchased.

Plastic “Teddy Bear Jugs” will also be available in various area businesses for spare change donations, including Smitty’s Pizza, Arby’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Putnam Chocolates, Long John Silvers and Bar-B-Cutie.  Wendy’s Restaurants will also have a collection jar out and match the amount with another donation from the owner.

Additional donations and checks can be made out and sent to: The Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund, c/o Volunteer Services/Marietta Memorial Hospital, 401 Mathew St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.
