Diabetes effects more than twenty-nine million Americans – or 9.3% of the population - and is one of the most common chronic diseases in the mid-Ohio valley. November is Diabetes Awareness Month and the Memorial Health System wants you to know the facts and learn about the support you can have through Dr. Spencer’s office in Caldwell.
The Diabetes Education Center at the Memorial Health System has been awarded the prestigious ADA Education Recognition certificate for a quality diabetes education program. This means we offer the highest quality diabetes education, an essential component in effective diabetes treatment. To receive this recognition, the Center submits to a rigorous review process by experts on diabetes who evaluate each program on its ability to provide patients with a comprehensive, individualized program.
You can find that program in Dr. Spencer’s office at 304 Main Street in Caldwell. Diabetes educators are on site at the office once a month to provide education to patients and again another time during the month the Center does nurse visits with the diabetes patients.
“Having the educators come to the office to see patients is so convenient,” says Dr. Alan Spencer, family practice in Caldwell, “It saves them the time and cost of travelling, and enables them to get the extra support they need to live healthier lives.”
Our program has become a vital resource for diabetics and pre-diabetics who seek our care. We strive to give all people with diabetes the opportunity to live long, healthy and productive lives. We do so with advanced teams of board certified endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, nurse educators and a registered dietitian.
Our highly experienced diabetes specialists offer comprehensive care through medical treatment, education, lifestyle and nutritional modification, group and individual counseling, support groups and weight management. Many of our patients benefit from easy-to-follow oral medications, though training in insulin treatment is also available.
Diabetes education is an important part of the care of patients with diabetes. Memorial Health System’s Diabetes Education Center is committed to providing those living with diabetes, their families and significant others with ready access to education, services and information.
To access services of the Diabetes Education Center, a referral from the patient’s physician is required. Appointments are required for all sessions. To set an appointment, call (740) 568-1702.
