July 25, 2007 - Teddy Bear Run Set for August 25

By Stephanie Johnson
The 14th Annual Teddy Bear Run, sponsored by the Gold Wing Road Riders and Marietta Memorial Hospital, is scheduled for Saturday, August 25. Teddy Bears that take the scenic drive are donated to the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund.

The Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund provides over 1,000 stuffed animals annually to both area hospitals to children, ages 6 months to 12 years old, admitted into the hospital or traumatized cases in the ER.

Marietta Mayor Mike Mullen will send the riders on their way from the Washington County Fairgrounds at noon to travel along several scenic roads in Washington County. The run will end at the Strecker Cancer Center with the donation of teddy bears presented by a representative of The Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund, refreshments and a 50/50 drawing for the riders. At that time the teddy bears will be presented to a representative of The Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund.

The public is invited to participate in the run and all makes of motorcycles are welcome. There is no fee; each rider is expected to purchase a new teddy bear to take on the run and donate to the fund. Last year, 60 motorcycles and over 100 people from twelve different motorcycle clubs participated. For more information about the run, contact Sam & Virginia Sadler at 984-2297 or Anna Vukovic, Marietta Memorial Hospital, at 374-1778.
