January 2, 2018 - Selby General Hospital Named America’s 100 Best for Orthopedics

Selby General Hospital is releasing that we’ve been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals™ for Orthopedics. Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.* Healthgrades identified the 100 best-performing hospitals across all conditions or procedures evaluated within Orthopedics.

The achievement is part of findings released in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation. The new report demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals nationally, regionally and at the local level, and the impact that this variation may have on health outcomes.

Selby General Hospital takes great pride in our Signature Care for Orthopedics program. Selby General Hospital’s orthopedic surgeons and specially-trained team offer innovative techniques and procedures to treat injury and disease of the bones and joints, from simple fractures to sports injuries to more complex cases like orthopedic spine procedures. As one of the most advanced orthopedic programs in the region, we perform hundreds of total knee and hip replacements and over 2,000 orthopedic cases yearly improving outcomes for patients. We have four surgical suites dedicated to orthopedics and perform total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements as well as a variety of outpatient procedures such as arthroscopies of the knee and shoulder. Patient rooms are designed to manage patient recovery from surgery and their therapy needs all in one location.

“Memorial Health System and Selby General Hospital is honored to receive this award from an independent organization. It reflects the hard work and professionalism of the entire staff that includes our surgeons, orthopedic surgery staff, nurses, techs, and therapists,” says Scott Cantley, president and CEO of Memorial Health System. “We use this data as one measurement of the quality of care we provide our community as we strive to provide the best Orthopedic care in the region and nation.”

“Many consumers believe that hospital quality is standardized, though the reality is that clinical quality and outcomes at hospitals vary widely across the country,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Healthgrades, chief medical officer. “The hospitals that have achieved the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedics distinction have demonstrated a commitment to exceptional quality of care and can distinguish themselves to consumers seeking care at high-quality facilities.”

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 17 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
