December 19, 2008 - Marietta Memorial, Thirty-One Establishments: Work to Make New Year's Eve Safe

(Marietta, OH, December 19, 2008) - Marietta Memorial Hospital’s Addiction & Pain Services is working with 31 Washington and Wood county restaurant and bar owners to keep roads safe New Year’s Eve.

“While statistics have improved, there are still an alarming number of alcohol-related auto accidents,” said Charlie Hasse, director, Behavioral Health Services at Marietta Memorial. “And, 1,257 deaths in Ohio in 2007 alone. Our goal is to lessen these tragedies and encourage people to think before they drink.”

The Designated Driver campaign is designed to educate the public and encourage people to take a stand against impaired driving. Participating locations will provide FREE designated non-alcoholic drinks to patrons who announce they are designated drivers during New Year’s Eve. Posters and coasters will be prominent in those locations participating in the event.

“We have establishments throughout Washington County participating and look forward to making the day a little safer for those traveling throughout the area,” said Hasse. Participants include:

American Legion #64, Applebee’s, Austyn’s, Blennerhassett Hotel, Buffalo Wild Wings, DaVinci’s, Double L, Harmar Tavern, Holiday Inn, House of Wines, J.P. Henry’s, Lafayette Hotel, Las Trancas Mexican Restaurant, Levee House, Marietta Brewing Company, Moose Lodge 1118 &1823, My Way Lounge, North End Tavern, Norwood Tavern, Overtime Lounge, Parkersburg VFW, River City Boathouse, River City Tavern & Grill, Riverside, Spagnas, Tampico, The Galley,Tiber Way Grille & Country Store, and Town House.
