Memorial Health System operates one of only two independent blood banks in Ohio. In fact, 80 to 90 percent of the blood products used at Marietta Memorial and Selby General Hospitals are drawn locally, which is a tremendous advantage in terms of availability, quality and cost. Both Marietta Memorial and Selby General Hospitals are able to obtain blood products needed by patients more quickly than through off-site blood banks, helping save lives faster.
Why donate blood?
A blood donation truly is a gift of life that a healthy individual can give to others in the community who are sick or injured. In one hour’s time, a person can donate one unit of blood that can be separated into four individual components, helping save multiple lives.
Who can donate?
Anyone between the ages of 17 and 70, with a body weight no less than 110 lbs., may be eligible to donate. Sixteen-year-olds may donate with written permission from a parent or guardian. Donating blood takes about an hour and is an easy process. After donation, normal activities can be resumed, although physical exercise is not recommended for the remainder of the day.

Our 35-foot Blood Mobile unit has enabled the blood bank to visit more sites throughout our community to ensure much needed blood supplies are available locally.
Our Blood Mobile is equipped with four donor beds, an area where staff can take donor health histories and storage space for post-donation snacks and beverages.
