On Saturday, October 15, the Memorial Health Foundation held their annual Fund Run to help raise money for service lines: stroke support, diabetes education and bariatric exercise programs. This year, the Glow Run themed 5k generated revenue of $8,608 through sponsorships and registration fees. There were a total of 367 registrants for the race.

On October 5th, Volley for a Cure took place during the volleyball game between Warren High School and Marietta High School. During this game, donations were accepted to benefit the Strecker Patient Emergency Fund held by the Memorial Health Foundation. Over $3,600 was raised from the community. This event was held during Breast Health Awareness Month.

The local Chapter A3 of the Goldwing Road Riders will be holding their 22nd Annual Fund Raiser for the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund on Saturday, May 30, at Hometown Honda on Rt. 7 North, located between Marietta & Reno, Ohio. Riders will be arriving at 10 a.m. and line up will begin at 12:45.

Memorial Health Foundation Recognizes Donations to Strecker Cancer Center

Dr. Lori A. Hawkins, along with her staff and patients, proudly presented Strecker Cancer Center with a check for $826 after a month-long office event recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, donations were accepted from patients at Hawkins Family Dentistry in Belpre and Dr. Hawkins matched that and added another $500. The money donated will go to the Strecker Patient Emergency Fund that provides wigs, gas cards and other necessities to those local patients in need of assistance.

Memorial Health System Offers Tips for People with Diabetes to Take a Step in the Right Direction

An average of 180 amputations a day are performed in the United States on patients with diabetes. As many as six million diabetics will have a foot ulcer that may result in chronic non-healing wounds and in extreme cases, lead to amputation. Tragically, those cases are hardly isolated: on average a staggering 180 amputations a day are performed in the United States on patients with diabetes.
