Medical vs. Vision Insurance
When it comes to eye exams, it can be confusing to know what your insurance covers. Itโ€™s important to understand the difference between medical and vision insurance so you can utilize your coverage to the fullest. Most people have major medical insurance, and some people carry additional vision insurance.

Medical Insurance
We accept most major medical insurances. Medical insurance covers medical eye exams or treatments that we provide. This includes a wide range of eye-related medical problems, such as:

  • Cataracts/cataract surgery
  • Diabetic eye care
  • Dry eyes
  • Flashes/floaters
  • Foreign body removal
  • Glaucoma
  • Hypertension
  • Lid lesion/abnormality
  • Macular degeneration

Vision Insurance
Vision insurance covers wellness eye exams including routine eye checkups, refractions, and the cost of calculating and writing your prescription. A refraction is the measurement for an eyeglass’s prescription, and it is not covered under medical insurance.

Your plan may provide discounts or allowances towards eyeglass frames, lenses, or contacts. Vision insurance is usually chosen by an employer and prefers certain providers. Routine eye exams can care for astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. As part of this exam, your doctor also checks for many conditions and diseases.

We doย notย accept vision insurance, but this will allow you to use this benefit with a different provider to be measured or fitted for glasses or contacts.
