SAFETY AND SECURITY
Memorial Health System enforces an extensive safety program to ensure the safety of all patients, visitors and personnel. If there is a fire or disaster drill while you are here, please do not be alarmed. These drills are a necessary and vital part of the hospital's safety program.

We have a Security Department with a fully trained security guard on site 7 days a week 24 hours a day for the hospital. They conduct a tour of the campus twice each shift. We utilize closed circuit TV to monitor parking lots and critical access doors. Two-way radios and cell phones are also utilized for close communication.

After visiting hours, we require visitors to register for a visitor's pass at the nurses' station. For your protection, we lock down the building to restrict access to the upper floors of the hospital. For your safety all hospital staff and authorized personnel, like consultants, volunteers, and contractors, wear name badges.

CASH & VALUABLES
It is recommended that patients not keep valuables in their rooms. No more than $5 should be kept at bedside for incidentals like a newspaper. If your valuables cannot be taken home, they may be placed in the hospital safe.

The hospital will not assume responsibility for valuables not placed in the safe.

MEAL SELECTION
Registered dietitians have designed menus for you in accordance with your physician???s orders.

Food Service Hosts will bring a selection of two main entrees and beverages to your bedside for your selection during each meal. This is called Select Service. You will make your selection immediately prior to being served.

Your visitors and family members can have a meal with you in your room. Ask your nurse or food service host for a guest tray. Guest trays cost $4.00. Monies can be paid to your food service host.

PARTNERS IN SAFETY
Patient safety is a top priority at Memorial Health System. We are constantly working to provide a safe, caring and pleasant environment for our patients. However, there are many ways you can contribute to your own care and safety.

  • Ask questions and share your concerns with your doctors and nurses
  • Pay attention to the care you are receiving
  • Ask about hand washing
  • Know what medications you are taking and why
  • Bring with you to the hospital a list of medications, doses & when you take them
  • Ask for information about your condition
  • Provide details about your medical history as well as symptoms you are having
  • Be sure you understand the information you receive

HAND WASHING INFECTION CONTROL
Careful hand washing is the most important measure to prevent the spread of infection. A foam waterless hand antiseptic is available for your use. Please help the hospital protect you from unnecessary complications by washing your hands frequently, particularly after using the bathroom, after contact with another patient, after touching flowers or patient equipment and before eating.

TELEPHONES
Telephones are available in every patient room except ICU. Outgoing calls can be made 24 hours a day. You may receive calls from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., and in emergencies. For local calls, dial ???9??? and then the number. For long distance calls, dial ???9, 0??? then give the outside operator the phone number you are calling and how to bill the call (collect, credit card or to your home number). For Williamstown calls, dial ???9, 0??? and ???304??? then the seven digit phone number.

CLERGY
Your clergy is always welcome at Marietta Memorial. The admissions clerk will ask you if you have a religious preference. Simply give the admissions clerk the name of your church.A chaplains??? program is available to minister to the spiritual needs of our patients regardless of faith. A chaplain routinely visits on the floors. Call (740) 374-1469 for the pastoral care coordinator or for the pastor on call, or inform your nurse you would like to speak to a chaplain.

CHAPEL
You and your family are invited to use the chapel on the fourth floor walkway at any time for family or private meditation. Please obtain permission from your nurse before you leave your unit.

Bibles
Each patient room should have a Gideon New Testament in one of the drawers. If there is not one or you would like both the Old and the New Testaments, please call the Pastoral Care office at (740) 374-1469. A large print bible and materials for other faiths may also be obtained by calling this number.

Holy Communion
Holy Communion is available through the Pastoral Care office. If you would like to receive it during your stay in the hospital, please call the Pastoral Care office at (740) 374-1469 or contact the hospital switch board by dialing 0 and the operator will connect you with Pastoral Care.

Newspapers
Newspapers can be purchased daily from a vending machine in the ER waiting room, in the first floor coffee and gift shop and in the New Image Cafe??.

Reading Materials
Donated books, magazines and puzzles are available to all patients and guests. Dial the Medical Library at ext. 1455 to have an item delivered to your room. Library hours are 9:00 a.m. ??? 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 ??? 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1:00 ??? 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Mail & Flower Delivery
Mail and flowers are delivered daily to your room by hospital volunteers.Mail received after you are discharged will be forwarded to the address you gave upon admission. Only small flowers and plants are permitted in ICU and PICU.
