Breaking Ground on Sistersville General Hospital
We have broken ground on the new Sistersville General Hospital—bringing modern, expanded healthcare to parts of WV.

Since its establishment in 1908, Sistersville General Hospital has been the hub of healthcare for those living in Tyler County, West Virginia, and beyond. Now, after 117 years of dedicated service, the time has come for a modern hospital.
On May 29, 2025, Memorial Health System, alongside state and community leaders, broke ground on the future site of the new Sistersville General Hospital—marking a historic step in expanding rural healthcare in West Virginia.
The new hospital will bring modern care closer to home and expand access to essential services. The facility will increase inpatient capacity by expanding to 16 beds and feature dedicated space for rotating specialists in top-tier service lines such as cardiology, gastroenterology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, general surgery, and more. Additionally, this facility will include procedure rooms to support specialty services, community spaces for meetings and education, and on-site lab and diagnostic services for faster, more accurate results—all under one roof.
In the months following the groundbreaking, excitement continues to grow among the Tyler County community and our teams as progress on the new facility begins to take shape. As of October 2025, site work has started, with building teams mobilizing after neighboring properties were acquired and cleared to accommodate the full footprint of the hospital.
Like many major construction projects, the new Sistersville General Hospital has experienced normal market-related adjustments. Rising costs for building materials and labor required a careful and transparent review of our budget—findings that were promptly shared with the public in a June 2024 article to keep the community fully informed.
To date, $9.7 million has already been invested by the State of West Virginia, Tyler County Commission, City of Sistersville, and the Towns of Middlebourne and Friendly, along with an additional $300,000 in private philanthropy—showing the communities’ commitment and shared goals for the region.
While Memorial Health Foundation continues working toward its $2 million Promise Campaign goal to further support the project, the brief delay in visible progress of the hospital was never about a lack of funding. Instead, it reflected thoughtful and careful planning as we coordinated with neighboring property owners and refined final design elements that will benefit the community for decades to come.
