Progress in Motion at Our Women and Children’s Hospital
Construction is underway for the new Women and Children’s Hospital in Belpre, Ohio—featuring a Level II NICU, private delivery rooms, and more.

Just over a year ago, Memorial Health System celebrated the official groundbreaking of our upcoming Women and Children’s Hospital at the Belpre Medical Campus. Joined by more than 700 guests—including state and local leaders such as Governor Mike DeWine and State Representative Jay Edwards—we marked a historic moment for healthcare access in Southeast Ohio.
In addition to being a Level II NICU, the Women and Children’s Hospital will provide a variety of services and amenities such as a pharmacy, café, gift shop, lactation services, private delivery rooms, a special care nursery, family waiting and support rooms, operating rooms, and even a post-partum rooftop terrace.
As the only hospital dedicated to the care of women and children in Southeastern Ohio, this 66,246-square-foot facility will allow 1,400 births to remain local, provide 400,000 patients with specialty care access, and keep 85% of previously transferred NICU infants close to home and with their families.
Since the groundbreaking event, significant progress has been made behind the scenes to prepare for construction. Site work officially began on October 1, 2025, marking the mobilization of equipment and the start of visible progress on the Belpre Medical Campus.
We continue to follow the USDA financing and team onboarding process, which ensures all regulatory and staffing steps are completed before construction begins. As of November 1, 2025, team selection has been finalized, and the next step is securing USDA design approval. Once that milestone is reached, official building construction is scheduled to begin at the start of calendar year 2026.
At the same time, Akron Children’s Hospital will begin construction of its medical office building, which will be attached to the new Women and Children’s Hospital—creating a comprehensive and collaborative environment for families across the region.
