Memorial Health System’s Annual Month of Giving Raises Over $37,000 to Support Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley

Wednesday, July 16th, 2025

Memorial Health System (MHS) is a proud founding member of Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley, a not-for-profit focused on raising awareness and helping eliminate hunger in the Mid-Ohio Valley. With an estimated 7,960 food-insecure people living in Washington County and 1,900 of those individuals being children, the need for Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley could not be greater.

In support of Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley, Memorial Health System hosted a variety of internal and external fundraisers during our annual Month of Giving this past June. With 100% of the proceeds from the Month of Giving going towards Hunger Solutions, MHS team members donated 41 baskets valued at a total of $15,874.46 for a basket raffle, purchased 50/50 tickets, enjoyed cold treats from Whit’s Frozen Custard, snacked on baked goods from weekly bake sales, purchased desserts from The Changed Plate, and even volunteered to donate paid time off (PTO). Through Hunger Solutions, those donations will in turn support local causes fighting food insecurity such as local food pantries, Southeast Ohio and Mountaineer Food Banks, Go Packs, Junior Farmers Market, Community Food Initiatives, and many more!

“Each year, I am inspired by the overwhelming response from our MHS family,” shares Paige Smith, Memorial Health System’s Chief Nurse Executive/Vice President and President of Hunger Solutions Mid-Ohio Valley. “We know that many of our food pantries and families are feeling the impact of recent funding cuts, and it’s truly amazing to see our team step up to help fill that gap. This is what community-based healthcare looks like: caring for the whole person and standing together to support our neighbors in need.”

This year, the MHS community rose to the challenge and raised a grand total of $37,210.68! To put this accomplishment into perspective, this total could purchase 10,336 boxes of food to support our local food pantries, equaling 372,096 meals for those in need.
