A condition in which part of the intestine slides into a part of the intestine next to it, much like a telescope.

Description

Intussusception is a medical emergency involving blockage of the intestine. It can be fatal if not treated. It happens most often in children, but it also can happen in adults.

Overview

Symptoms in children include sudden, loud crying that comes and goes every 15 to 20 minutes, vomiting, and stool mixed with blood and mucus. For adults, the most common symptom is belly pain that comes and goes. Nausea and vomiting also may happen.

Symptoms
