Von Willebrand disease is often inherited from one or both parents. In rare cases, it may develop later in life.

Symptoms may include frequent nosebleeds that don’t stop within 10 minutes, bleeding from the gums, heavy or long menstrual bleeding, and excessive bleeding from a cut.
