Forcefully expelling the stomach’s contents out of the mouth.

Self-care

See a healthcare professional right away if:

  • Chest pain, blurry vision, confusion, high fever, a stiff neck or other serious symptoms are present.
  • Blood, stool, or a green color is present in vomit.

When to seek immediate medical care

Make an appointment to see a healthcare professional if:

  • An adult can’t keep fluid down for 12 hours or more.
  • A child can’t keep fluid down for 8 hours or more.
  • There is excessive thirst, less frequent urination, lightheadedness or other symptoms of dehydration.
