To reduce the chances of Achilles (uh-KILL-eez) tendon problems, stretch and strengthen calf muscles, vary the type of exercise, try not to run on hard or slippery surfaces, and increase training intensity slowly.

- A pop or snap sound or feeling occurs in the heel.
- Walking after injury is not possible.
