Pain Management

The Department of Pain Management is comprised of a team of specialists that focus on individualized treatment plans with a holistic approach to care for chronic (long-term) pain. From your initial consultation through treatment and ongoing support, our team is here with you every step of the way. Although we focus on medication management, our goal is to decrease or eliminate your dependence on medications to control your pain and to help you learn alternate modalities of treatment to improve your quality of life.

Please note: To become a new patient, you will need a provider referral.

Conditions We Treat

Chronic pain

Chronic pain is pain that lasts longer than six months and that you experience most days. Chronic pain may start as acute pain, but it continues long after the injury or event occurred, healed, or resolved.

Chronic pain can range from mild to severe, and is associated with issues such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Bone pain
  • Cancer (after treatment)ย
  • Circulation problems
  • Diabetes
  • Fibromyalgia (condition causing musculoskeletal pain throughout the body)
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Nerve pain
  • Visceral pain (internal, often vague pain that occurs in your abdomen, chest, pelvis, or intestines)

Acute pain

Acute pain is pain that starts suddenly and only lasts for a short time (from minutes up to two months). This type of pain is usually caused by a specific event or injury, such as:

  • Broken bone
  • Burn or cut
  • Car crash or other type of accident
  • Dental work
  • Fall or other injury
  • Labor and childbirth
  • Surgery

What to Expect on Your First Visit

The initial visit will be a consultation to assess and develop the best treatment plan tailored to your individual needs. You can expect to try several modalities of treatment such as topical creams, physical therapy, as well as ordering additional tests such as MRIs or CTs.
